* NEC Storage HS series is sold as HYDRASTOR® in the United States of America.

Usage Examples

Simplified storage for various types of business data with efficiency

Images, CCTV clips, mail, sensor logs and other types of unstructured data or basic corporate data. With NEC Storage HS6-50A, the capacity and / or performance can be increased as needed. Freely scale-out in a way that matches your business requirements.

Data management is treated as a single pool, so even when the capacity moves to a petabyte (PB) level, management remains simple and the capacity continues to be used efficiently.

Layered management has significantly reduced the storage costs

By utilizing specialized archive software, data that is accessed infrequently can be moved to archive storage. This not only free up space on your primary storage, but also improves overall performance and reduces backup times. To achieve greater savings in storage costs, tape devices can also be in layers and used for data storage, and can automate the whole process (by configuring policies in advance) to help reduce staff workload.

Key Features

Built in High-speed image compression engine

In recent years, much attention has been focused on the collection and analysis of large data being output by image / video sensors used in multiple industrial sectors. NEC has successfully developed an image compression engine that includes both excellent compression ratios and high performance. From a performance point of view, it matches high-resolution and compression of JPEG 2000 at 10 to 40 times the speed. This innovative new technology is designed for NEC Storage HS6 and allows to store very large image files using less space without degradation of quality, all in real time.

Manage safe and effective data for long term retention

Data management that requires long-term retention (medical data or image control, designs, e-mail and so on) can be safely managed. By replacing the old nodes in sequence with a new node, the data is automatically migrated to the new node. The result significantly brings down the labor cost, even when migration is in large scale for several hundred terabytes or even petabytes. If you total the working hours cost along with purchasing cost, the time associated to perform such operations is much lower and will assure to be a great benefit to your return on investment.

Scale-out architecture controls the investment costs

In the era of large data it became necessary to prepare for increases in data that are difficult to predict. The design of the NEC Storage HS6 is easy and flexible through scale-out architecture, allowing the addition of nodes to increase performance and capabilities. By starting small, expanding only when needed to accommodate data growth, can improve the cost of investment.

 Exceptionally resilient data protection

When archiving important business data, a higher level of reliability and availability is needed. The NEC Storage HS6 utilizes a redundant and distributed data structure that can withstand the simultaneous failure of 3 HDDs (can be configured to handle up to 6 HDD), with an automatic restore function, the reconstruction is performed in the shortest possible time. With this automatic restoration feature, the shortest possible time will be taken to reconstruct. The presence of this technology reduces the risk of data loss to the lowest level and provides protection that surpasses RAID. Data loss from natural disaster can significantly be mitigated along with replication function to store a copy in your remote location.

Highly reliable function adapted for regulatory compliance

Except the encryption functionality that protects against data leakage, WORM (Write Once Read Many) support can be utilized to secure your data against malicious or unauthorized file access or manipulation. In addition, our data shredding method is fully in line with US Department of Defense standards (D-5220.22-M) to ensure that when data is not needed, it is completely erased and can not be recovered.
