Features

Reduction in Backup cost by compressing the storage data

DataRedux (latest data high compression technology owned by NEC), it compares the data blocks for duplicated data in storage and can delete it automatically due to which capacity efficiency is enhanced dramatically.  With physical compression and deduplication technology, the stored data can be compressed at a ratio of 20:1, or more. In this technology Big backup data can be stored at a cost over capacity lower than that of conventional tape.

*Compression rate depends on data characteristics.

Adopt NEC’s own data high compression technology

RepliGrid – Economical and secure disaster management

If backup data is required to be stored at a remote location in the event of a disaster such as an earthquake or fire, replication with regular SAN storage requires a high-speed line, resulting in high cost. With “DataRedux” technology, NEC Storage HS only transfers data not stored at the remote site. Therefore, the amount of data transferred can be reduced and remote replication can be done on a low speed line with a low connection rate. With this, the loss of data due to a disaster can be reduced to the minimum level economically. In addition, improved security is achieved through the replication packet encryption feature, which protects the user’s important data against eavesdropping by third parties during maintains confidentiality and replication.

Dedupted Transfer – boost up writes with client-side deduplication

Backup data is compressed and deduplicated in the backup server before sending to the NEC storage HS, and because the data already stored in the NEC is excluded from the transmission, the use of network bandwidth is greatly surpassed. Performance of physical backups is also improved, especially in high-deduplication ratio environments with very large backup sizes.
Deduped Transfer enhances server resource backups for pre-processing deduplication and only sends unique chunks of data from the media server, resulting in significantly higher throughput (up to 4-6 times higher performance than with express I / O alone) for workloads Backup.

WORM – Tamper-proof feature for data protection

The WORM (Write Once Read Many) smart feature is available to secure data from unauthorized tampering or wrong operation. You can specify the protection period for each file. Even the administrator cannot updated the resulting protected files during the period set.

OpenStorage-Suite – Optimized Replication and Backup Workflow with Veritas NetBackup

NEC OpenStorage Suite for Veritas Netbackup extends the functions of Veritas NetBackup, and takes advantage of NEC storage capabilities across the Veritas OpenStorage API framework. NEC OpenStorage – Suite consists of: Express I / O, optimized synthetics, optimized copy and accelerator. Each component contributes to ease of use, reliability, management, backup performance and replication, using both the NEC Storage HS and the Veritas NetBackup features. Companies take advantage of NEC in conjunction with Veritas NetBackup maximize storage utilization, block I / O bottlenecks and improve overall backup workload using NEC Storege HS OpenStorage – Suite.

NEC HS OpenStorage – Suite consists of:

Express I/O – Lightweight Data Transport: NEC HS OpenStorage Express I / O increases your backup productivity by up to 20% or more and shrinks the backup window via lightweight data transfer protocol. Express I / O increases the efficiency of data transfer and productivity using 1GbE and 10GBE current network environments.

Synthetics optimization – Storage – Synthesized full Backup: With the optimized synthetics, NEC Storage HS eliminates the need for full redundant backups and greatly improves the efficiency of the backup process by reducing server backup workload and network traffic. NEC storage HS OpenStorage Optimized Synthetics reduces the backup window by offloading the full synthetic backup processing to the NEC Storage HS.

Optimized duplication – WAN -optimzed Copy Services: The NEC Storage HS Open Storage Optimized Copy facilitates data management between the master site and disaster recovery site for efficient disaster data recovery management. Supporting and updating the Optimized Copy, it can automate copy process and updates NetBackup Catalog while supporting the NEC storage HS replication software WAN-optimized replication. With in-flight data encryption, data can be saved from unauthorized access during transit.

Openstorage –  Accelerator: This function provides parallel feature to NetBackup Accelerator, but for NEC storage HS. It gives result a reduction in duration for performing full backup. While NetBackup Accelerator does so in a media server, the Openstorage Accelerator reduces the burden on the media server and the network, its function provides complete backups to the NCE Storage HS. Performing full backups in a VMWare Virtual Environment is also possible in short duration with VADP backups.\

OpenStorage-AIR -WAN-Optimized Auto Image Replication

NEC Storage HS OpenStorage Auto-Image Replication (AIR) replicate crucial backups from your office to your disaster recovery site, with each in a different NetBackup domain maintained by an independent NetBackup catalog. It leverages NEC Storage HS’s RepliGrid WAN-Optimized replication technology to send only unique, compressed data to the remote site and provide a platform to automate disaster recovery.  By utilizing AIR, disaster recovery site backup servers automatically import the replicated images and updates its catalog, provide access to rapid recovery even in cases where the primary site has been completely lost.

Advanced Encryption –  Secure Long-term Data Retention

NEC Storage HS Encryption protects data from unauthorized access to lost or stolen disks or nodes, by ensuring that data is encrypted before being written to disk. Along with DataRedux high-performance global deduplication, NEC Storage HS provides secure long-term data retention that can scale to meet future demands. When combined with encryption, NEC Storage HS delivers high-performance global data redundancy, while ensuring data encryption before it is written to disk.

NEC Storage HS Encryption delivers:

Fast inline data encryption : Blocks unauthorized access to data on lost, stolen, or broken disks or nodes by encrypting data chunks with AES 256-bit with FIPS 140-2 validated libraries.

Secure encryption key management : Blocks the encryption key from unauthorized access by encrypting the key in disk and allocating the decrypted key in system memory.

Support for long-term data retention : Retains the attributes and level of protection in both the primary site and the remote site with the Replication software WAN- optimized and WORM.

Easy deployment: It deploys encryption function in existing NEC storage systems easily by enabling licensing and simplifying management with ease of management and monitoring.
